COVID-19 Updates

Infection Prevention Practices

Coquille Valley Hospital has implemented the most current, up-to-date Infection Prevention practices to keep our patients, our staff, and our community as safe as possible!

Here are some of the actions we have taken to align with the current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Oregon Health Authority guidelines to protect against COVID-19:

What to expect when coming to our hospital or clinic for an in-person visit with one of our providers:

1. When you arrive, please enter the facility from the front entrance.

2. Due to the current state guidelines, visitors are not allowed into the hospital or clinic at this time. However, there are a few special considerations allowed by the state. If you feel that you require someone to accompany you or that you have specific circumstances that may require you to have a support person present for your in-person visit, contact us prior to coming for your visit to determine if your situation meets the criteria allowed by the Oregon Health Authority.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Antibody Testing Now Available at Coquille Valley Hospital

Antibody testing, also called serology testing, is used to identify the presence of immune response to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. It is a critical component to our nation’s response to the pandemic. This test is only intended to detect IgG antibodies to the virus. It does not diagnose active or recent infection. For IgG antibodies to be detected, you must be symptom-free (no fever or cough) for two weeks prior to testing. No prior physician’s order or referral needed.

Respiratory Therapists: Unsung Heroes

By: Lucinda Tatman RCP, Cardiopulmonary Services Manager

Respiratory Therapists across the nation have too often only been silent heroes during this pandemic. There are a reported 111,000 Respiratory Therapists in the USA. That number pales in comparison to nurses and physicians; however, Respiratory Therapists’ contributions to healthcare are profound. The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics report a job growth need of 21% between 2018-2028, which is considered much faster than the average.

COVID-19 Testing

To test for coronavirus (COVID-19), a patient has to meet specific criteria. If you are experiencing respiratory illness symptoms, follow these steps:

Consult with your primary care provider
Your primary care provider will determine if you meet the criteria and should be tested for coronavirus (COVID-19).

Not Allowing Visitors in Hospital or Clinic

As of March 17th, Coquille Valley Hospital will not be allowing visitors inside of the hospital or clinic until further notice to best protect our patients, staff and community. Exceptions will be made for a parent of a patient who is a minor, family of end-of-life patients, and individuals needed for decision-making or communication with a patient. Please note, the Valley View Cafe is also closed to the public. We appreciate your patience and understanding and apologize for the inconvenience.
